“I initially started as a teacher in Zimbabwe and knew that I wanted to help people more so I started training as a counsellor. I then went to university to study social work. I moved to the UK after graduating and joined Milton Keynes City Council as a Social Work Assistant and within six months moved up to Social Worker.
I enjoy working here because no two days are the same, I work in a team that supports one another and where our career development is encouraged and training opportunities are always available.”

“Six years ago I joined the Assessment team for Older People’s service and then got a secondment into safeguarding. After working from home during the pandemic, I joined the Hospital Team and it's the best decision I've made.
I’ve worked in other Local Authorities as a Social Worker but Milton Keynes is one step ahead – we have really supportive managers who go above and beyond and we have excellent specialist services such as Kilkenny and Courtney’s Lodge for people with dementia.”

“I’ve worked in Mental Health since 2004 and joined Milton Keynes City Council Community Support Team in 2010 as a Social Worker. What makes Milton Keynes City Council stand out is that they train their staff well and want to help you expand and develop both professionally and personally.
I've been able to train as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and Best Interest Accessor thanks to the City Council sponsoring me.
As an AMHP my primary duty is to prevent hospitalisations and work with doctors to asses a person in need. If you’re thinking of becoming an AMHP my biggest advice would be to see the person first and not just the diagnosis.”

"I joined Milton Keynes City Council fresh out of university in 2013. I joined as a Support Worker in the Autism team and a year later started a masters degree in social work which I did alongside my job, I then qualified in 2018. In October 2021 I started my six-month training as an AMHP which is a post-grad diploma.
MKCC offers excellent opportunities to grow within this profession, we also have a supportive and collaborative culture."

“In July 2019 I applied for an ASYE position here at Milton Keynes City Council having just qualified as a Social Worker. Over the last four years I've been able to progress my career through a variety of roles and later this year will be starting my AMHP training course which has always been a dream for me.
Our Adult Social Care is structured into different services and we all collaborate with one another, there are also opportunities to work across the different teams.
