​Role Overview

Our Senior Social Workers play a critical role in supporting adults across Milton Keynes to live safe, independent and fulfilling lives. Working within Adult Social Care, they lead on complex cases, provide expert professional guidance and help ensure vulnerable adults receive the right support, protection and interventions at the right time. Senior Social Workers are experienced practitioners who apply advanced social work knowledge, professional judgement and legal literacy to achieve positive outcomes for the people they support.

The role involves leading on cases involving high levels of risk and complexity, including safeguarding enquiries and situations requiring the application of specialist legislation. Senior Social Workers undertake complex assessments, make evidence-based decisions, coordinate multi-agency interventions and use strengths-based approaches to promote independence, wellbeing and choice. Effective case management, professional curiosity and reflective practice are central to the role, alongside maintaining accurate records and delivering work within agreed timescales.

A key part of the role is supporting the development of colleagues through coaching, guidance and professional challenge. Senior Social Workers model best practice, contribute to a culture of learning and continuous professional development, and work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and partner organisations to deliver high-quality services. ​​​Key requirements​​

• Hold a recognised social work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).

• Be registered with Social Work England.

• Demonstrate ongoing Continuing Professional Development in line with Social Work England requirements.

• Have significant experience as an Experienced Social Worker and be committed to maintaining that level of practice.

• Possess strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Human Rights Act 2008.

• Experience of managing complex cases, assessing risk and making well-reasoned professional decisions.

• Confident in supporting, mentoring and developing less experienced colleagues.

• Able to use IT systems effectively to maintain accurate records and communicate professionally.

• Able to travel to meet service delivery requirements.
